New safety measures Category 2 & 3 due to overwhelming response

* For your safety, Category 2 will be closed once it reaches full capacity of 100 pax
* Only the first 80 cyclists of Category 3 in stage 1 will be allowed to start in Category 3 for stage 2 and 3.
* The Category 3 cyclists who finish outside the first 80 on stage 1 will start in the recreational category for stage 2 and 3. Their times will still be recorded and accumulated in the general ranking.

Stage 1: 25km longer than in the 2009 trial edition

The Tour will take a brand-new road through the Bintan ‘high lands’ that will make the stage 1 not only longer but more challenging than in the 2009 trial edition.

The buzz is out about the Tour De Bintan after last year’s trial race. Teams are already being formed and getting organized, and are devising strategies for stage wins, general classification or Sprint and Mountain jersey.

All cyclists will have their time recorded by electronic timing

The electronic timing provided by the Tour De Bintan will give everyone (competitive and recreational cyclists alike) accurate timing for all stages. With time bonuses to be earned at the finish line, the race for seconds promises to be exciting.

Cyclists to select their race category

The Tour de Bintan is the first in Asia offering amateur cyclists the opportunity to experience a pro-like tour in a peloton of their ability (rather than a age-group based categorization). This should result in more competitive pelotons and more exciting racing.
Cyclists are responsible for selecting their race category based on cycling ability, experience and skills. A committee made of cycling experts will however review the categorization upon closing of race registration and may upgrade or downgrade cyclists judged inadequately categorized.
