Note: Cyclists participating on these categories are strictly required to personally collect their race kit on the prescribed date only.

82km Day-trip Package 

 

Cyclists who signed up for the 82km Day-trip Package will collect their kit at the Tanah Merrah Ferry Terminal in Singapore before boarding the ferry to Bintan.

55km Gran Fondo Discovery

 

You may collect your race kit on Friday 3rd March OR on Sunday 5th March race morning.

Classification

General Classification

The 17km Individual Time Trial, 140km Gran Fondo Classic and 111km Gran Fondo Century counts towards the General Classification.

For each age category the cyclist with the fastest accumulated time is the winner and receives the Yellow Jersey.

 

Stage Classification

The 17km Individual Time Trial, 140km Gran Fondo Classic and 111km Gran Fondo Century have a Stage Classification.

For each age category the cyclist with the fastest time is the winner. The top-3 cyclists of each age category receive a trophy.

All riders that cross the finish in the same peloton are credited with the same finish time. At each real break a new time is recorded.

 

Team Classification

ALL team cyclists can earn points towards a team ranking by finishing the 17km ITT, 140km Classic,  111km Century, 82km Challenge and 55km Discovery. Finishing top-5 or top 25% in the age category earns more points, see table below.

The top-3 male and female teams with the highest total points receive a trophy.

Rules and regulations
General

  • The Tour de Bintan (‘The Event’) is organised under the UCI (International Cycling Union) rules and regulations.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to limit and refuse entries.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to remove any participant deemed physically incapable of continuing the race.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to amend the Rules and Regulations without prior notification.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to amend the race course with prior notice to participants.
  • In the event of inclement weather, the Organisers reserve the right to delay the commencement of the race, shorten the race, modify the course or cancel the race without any refund of registration fees.
  • At any point in time, the Organisers reserve the right to cancel the race without any refund of registration fees.

Race Entry

  • Participants must be at least 16 years old to take part in Gran Fondo Challenge and Discovery.
  • Participants must at least be 18 years old to take part in the age categories Individual Time Trial, Gran Fondo Classic and Century.
  • Participants under 21 years old must provide parental consent to take part in the event.
  • On-the-spot entries will not be accepted.
  • The Organisers will not be responsible for any disputes arising from incomplete and/or incorrect entry details given by the participants.
  • Changes to race distance are permitted. An admin fee of S$20 will apply per change. All changes must be made by 27 February 2017.
  • Race entries are non-transferable. Any person doing so will be held responsible in case of an accident arising from or provoked by the other person during the race. The Organisers reserve the right to exclude both parties from future events.
  • Once the registration form has been processed, there will be no fee refund for the participants who, for whatever reason, eventually do not take part.
  • Participants who wish to cancels their race entry are entitled to:
    • 60% credit of the race entry if the cancellation is requested by 03 November 2016 (120 days before the event)
    • 40% credit of the race entry fee if the cancellation is requested by 10 February 2017 (21 days before the event)

Equipment

  • It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure that their bicycles are in good working condition and safe for use in a mass participation cycling event.
  • The organiser reserves the right to refuse participants with bicycles that are considered unsafe for the event.
  • Only conventional road bikes are allowed in the Individual Time Trial, Gran Fondo Classic, Gran Fondo Century as per UCI technical regulations
  • For the Gran Fondo Challenge and Discovery conventional road bikes, mountain bikes and hybrid bikes are allowed.
  • Triathlon handlebars, aerobars, bar extensions and bull horns are not allowed.
  • Handlebar ends have to be solidly plugged.
  • Wheels must have a minimum of 12 spokes. Disc wheels are not allowed.
  • Non-standard wheels (with rims higher than 2.5cm, fewer than 16 spokes or a spoke thickness of over 2.4mm) must have passed a rupture test. See

  • Disc brakes are now allowed
  • Bottle cage holders behind the seat are not allowed in the Individual Time Trial, Gran Fondo Classic, Gran Fondo Century.
  • Hydration back packs are allowed in the Gran Fondo Challenge and Discovery.
  • Participants must wear a securely fastened cycling helmet for the duration of the entire race/ride.
  • Aero-helmets are not allowed.
  • Jerseys worn in the event must cover the shoulders for the Individual Time Trial, Gran Fondo Classic, Gran Fondo Century. Sleeveless cycling jerseys are not allowed.

Participant Obligations

  • Participants must attend the race briefing
  • Participants must keep to the left side of the road and observe traffic rules at all time.
  • Participants must ensure that their competition numbers are clearly visible at the back of their adorned apparel at all times.
  • Wearing headphones is not allowed at all times.
  • Private (support) vehicles are prohibited from the event.

Categories & Ranking

  • Cyclists who do not make the cut-off time during a stage are not allowed to continue and complete the stage, unless stipulated differently at the cut-off time (see below).
  • The Tour de Bintan has 3 classifications/competitions for all age categories: stage classification, general classification, team classification. For more detail go to the prizes page
  • The first 25% of each age category on the Individual Time Trial and Gran Fondo Classic qualifies for the 2017 UCI Gran Fondo World Championship
  • The winner of an age category always qualifies, even if the age category has only 1 cyclist
  • Age category winner get a trophy. No prize money is awarded to winners
  • Age category winners receive a Gran Fondo World Series champion jersey for the Gran Fondo Classic and ITT
  • Age category winners (top 3) receive a Tour de Bintan trophy for their Gran Fondo Classic, century and ITT stages
  • General Classification (GC) winners receive a Tour de Bintan champion jersey
  • All finishers receive a medal upon completion of their race category (e.g. Tour de Bintan package 17km + 140km + 111km, medal will be received upon finishing the 111km race)

Cut-off Time

Saturday:

82km Gran Fondo Challenge

  • Km 19 cut-off time is 10:35.
  • Km 62 cut-off time is 14:20 Cyclists will be transfered back to the finish by bus.
  • Km 82 / Finish cut-off time is 15:15. Finish line closed.

140km Gran Fondo Classic

  • Km 35 cut-off time is 10:00. Cyclists are sent on a shorter route to complete 82km instead.
  • Km 61 cut-off time is 11:15. Cyclists are sent on a shorter route to complete 131km instead.
  • Km 108 cut-off time is 13:35.
  • Km 121 cut-off time is 14:20. Cyclists go into the cut-off bus and are transferred to the finish.
  • Km 140 finish cut-off time is 15:15. Finish line closed.

Sunday

111km Gran Fondo Century

  • Km 59 cut-off time is 10:30. Cyclists go into the cut-off bus and are transferred to the finish
  • Km 94 cut-off time is 12:15. Cyclists will be transferred to the finish line.
  • Km 111. Finish cut-off time is 13:15. Finish line closed.

55km Gran Fondo Discovery

  • Km 37 cut-off time is 12:15. Cyclists will be transferred to the finish line.
  • Km 55 finish line cut-off time is 13:15. Finish line closed.
