Route

Stage 1: 156km:simpang lagoi - kijang simpang Lagoi

  • Km 1-21: Stage 1 kicks off with rolling hills past villages and dense jungle. The spectators along the course will make you think you are Lance Armstrong.

  • Km 22-34: A beautiful brand new road that crosses the Bintan ‘high lands’ with some beautiful vistas, more hills and the first sprint for the KOM classification.

  • Km 35-58: Some respite from the hills on the picturesque coastal ‘highway’. The white beaches with waving palm trees are tempting, but you still have a long way to go. Towards the end of this flat section is a sprint for the ACE classification located.

  • Km 59-79: Again a change of scenery. The road narrows and the hills return, although not of the same intensity as the beginning of the stage.

    • Km 80-109: Turning off the country road into the ‘urban’ area of Bintan with a guided tour through Kijang, the capital of the Bintan region, and Tanjung Pinang, the commercial centre of Bintan. An opportunity to win some points for the Sprint Ace jersey. Not exactly a flat section, but no big hills either.

    • Km 110-133: Hills, rainforest and the occasional village. Cyclists with their eyes on the King of the Mountain jersey should look out for another KOM sprint.

    • Km 134-156: Time to plan the final move and take the win of this stage. It is worth paying attention to the first 20km of the ride, as the stage finishes on the same section in the opposite direction; an exhilarating finale on rolling hills and with a final descent as the ultimate springboard for a sprint at high speed.

Stage 2: 74km:Nirwana Gardens – Tanjung Uban – Nirwana Gardens

  • Km 1-6: Leave the green Nirwana Gardens for a pleasant prelude along the quiet roads of Bintan Resorts.

  • Km 7-14: A beautiful road that winds its way up through lush green jungle and some energy sapping hills with points to be earned for the KOM classification.

  • Km 15-33: Rolling hills past villages and rainforest. By now a familiar sight for the cyclists of the Tour.

  • Km 34-39: As the road flattens out, the town of Tanjung Uban and a sprint for the Sprint Ace jersey nears. Enjoy the cheers from the crowd as the peloton winds through the back roads of a typical Tanjong Uban neighbourhood.

  • Km 40-52: A number of stinging hills lead in a flat and pretty coastal section. Another sprint for the ACE classification is lined up towards the end of this section.

    • Km 53-59: The village of Sungei Kecil greets the peloton before it turns back to the Bintan Resorts with a few gentle hills as a warm up for more to come.

    • Km 60-67: Unless blocked out from your memory, you will recognize the beautiful turns and elevations of the road that leads to the resort area of Bintan Island. The peloton awaits another KOM sprint!

    • Km 68-74: a flatter section, but still not a lot of relief as the roads keeps sloping up and down. The gate of Nirwana Gardens announces the final 2 kilometers of muscle crunching with a few elevations and another extremely fast dash to the finish line.

Stage 3: 38km:Nirwana Gardens – Ria Bintan – Nirwana Gardens

  • Km 1-4: The rustic green gardens of host Nirwana Gardens lead in the Tour’s shortest and most explosive stage. The sloping roads do not leave much room for an easy start.

  • Km 5-12: A predominantly flat road with a section along a Bintan Resort’s reservoir that is exposed to wind, if any. Sprinters will be jockeying for position as the peloton approaches the first ACE sprint.

  • Km 13-19: The rolling hills through the beautifully manicured gardens and golf course of Ria Bintan provide the only opportunity on this stage to hurt the peloton with a splitting acceleration on one of the ascends and pick up the final points for the King of the Mountain jersey.

  • Km 20-33: Back on the ‘flat’ road past the reservoir and the local township, the peloton will have its sight on any escape group on this straight and open section.

  • Km 34-38: The final five kilometers of the challenging and fast finale is the same as for stage 2, so there is no excuse for not timing the decisive break or sprint right to the finish gate of Nirwana.
